The Department of Homeland Security announced today that same-sex families will soon be able to cross the border together, filing just one form for all “members of a family residing in one household.” Before, married same-sex couples had to go through customs separately because the policy referred to married couples, and thus fell under the purview of the Defense of Marriage Act. The proposed change will undergo a series of reviews and a period of public comment before it takes effect.
I hope I don’t have to hear opposition. It would be amazing if something like this could be announced and let be.
Well, my grand experiment in applying for 100 jobs was a failure. I wanted to lie and be like I DID IT!!!, but who would gain anything from that? As of right now I applied for 34 jobs. Only two of which I really, really want.
I had two delays that caused me to lose a lot of time in this endeavor.
I had to go put together a giant train table for a little boy and that took hours out of my day, but I did get $20 for doing that.
One of the jobs I applied to required/encouraged those applying to do a 60 second video in which you show the company how you would greet a potential member/client. It took me over 30 minutes just to decide what to wear. Then took me way too long to record the 60 second video.
I am at the point where I am getting really jealous of people going to work and those complaining about work drive me crazy. I know that’s a normal part of work/office culture that I participated in it when I had a job and I am sure I will again. I don’t even know anymore.
I’m from Queens! My parents were born and bred in Brooklyn. I was the only one of 6 brothers born in Queens. I love Middle Village, Maspeth, Long Island City. Queens Center Mall is great. Also Middle Village has a GIANT shopping too! Enjoy my city!
I had a dream I had some since I bought hot dogs the other day [and we happen to have chili in there]. Lool maan who dreams of eating food? I can say this, they were the greatest dream chili dogs ever. Also, I know what I’m having today.
Now that I’ve finally gotten chance to sit own I can talk about everything that has gone on this week. Monday was a pain but since then things have gotten so much better. My sister and I were supposed to depart on a plane to Houston at 6:15 am but with the huge number of people leaving SXSW security lines were packed and we missed our flight. Not so bad, I’ve missed flight before. You just wait a couple of hours and fly out the next possible flight. NOT. THIS. TIME!
We ended up flying from Austin to Houston to St. Louis to Chicago to Newark before having to take a cab to our Hotel in Manhattan. A journey that started at 5 am finally ended at almost Midnight! I was so incredibly tired and sore and just wanted it to be over with. Ultimately missing the flight was my fault but I can’t help but think this wouldn’t have happened on Jet Blue. Mostly because they have a lot of flight directly to New York. Not to mention the almost 90 bucks I had to spend on a cab from the airport to midtown when originally we planned to take a train from Newark to the city and then cab it from Penn Station. Monday just was not my day. Oh and did mention I also lost my Driver’s License in one of the Airports? Because that most definitely happened. I’m still hoping it’s somewhere in my luggage and I just haven’t spotted it yet. In the meantime I’m just using my ID that has quite the unflattering picture but luckily isn’t expired
SInce that hellish day things have gone pretty smooth. We’re getting the hang of the train system and exploring a bit. The other day we just happened to spot Dylan’ Candy bar and stopped in. I still have candy left from that day. ANother pretty cool place we went to was Serendipity 3 where they sell those frozen hot chocolates. Definitely worth the trip (and wait). It’s not whipped smooth like a milk shake so it has all of these tiny little crystals of ice that crunch between your teeth. I love it! Next time I’m trying the peanut butter version.
Yesterday we met up with a cousin who haven’t met yet but she’s super cool and very helpful. She said she would get in touch with some recruiters and help us find jobs and a place to stay. Yay! I’m so ready work, it’s not even funny, because this place is most definitely expensive!
I hope to get some good pictures up here soon. I haven’t taken many as I’ve been trying to get settled and I figure, there is plenty of time for that over the next few weeks. Needless to say I’m a happy girl.
